In a plane, what may be a 12 hour flight might be a minute for a person sleeping next to you. Times a tricky concept, We as a normal student know that time is jus the amount of specific intervals that have passed, but what if we actually look into this.
We have seen many pics of many famous people, but have we ever wondered about them? Lets say the Queen Elizabeth for example. If we look at her all we see is a old woman. But we never tend to recognize the young woman she was. The fact being she was born at the same time Marylyn Moore was born. Also Anne Frank was born at the time Martin Luther king was born, and them both had they been alive today would have still been younger than the queen. Surprising right?
We have seen many movies, time travel and much more as you may know by now. I have even written a blog on cryonics which is saving our body to go to a future time. But this may be a complex thing if made possible in real life. Now they have neatly shown this complex concept in back to the future but let me go a bit deeper.
Time paradox. Is when one person goes back in time to affect something which would affect the future, but this would have to happen in the future to have happened in the past. So it would create a loop that would never end.
Grandfather Paradox. Another quite amazing theory is that if you go in the past and kill your grandfather, then you would not have a father and subsequently you would not have been born, so the question lies in who has killed your grandfather.
We have seen many time periods. Have we not? Look at a man in a cap, you can tell hes from the 80s or 90s, a man in a modern clothes outfit would be present day perhaps, what about monkeys, what about dinosaurs. We can obviously tell their times apart as we can see them and physically tell them apart, but on the other hand what about a guy from a year ago and now, a month ago and now, a day ago and now, or even a second ago. We cannot really tell time just a random person, but we could over longer periods of time. The point Im trying to make here is that we as humans can only distinguish long periods of time changes in culture and humans. Its not like people changed their dress sense in a day or two but rather it "Evolved" into what it is today, hence giving us a difference between a dino and a dog.
I have once seen a video by Vsauce where he gives an example of such situation. Where imagine you were placed in a room and were told to come out after 1 minute. Then we could, but if we had to come out after 1 year, it would be hard to keep track of time. Humans can only keep track of time of small intervals, but after they tend to loose count, and hence decide the current time they are in with temporal disillusion.
The moon landing, has happened much closer to the release of lion king, than lion king is to today. Quite surprising isn't it?
Our grandparents tell us stories, that they never had a tv as a child, that to an adult may seem bizarre and a big question as to how they spent their time, but at the same time... an adult never had a phone as a child, and they use to live a normal life and upon the introduction of the phone, it had just been an addition to their life or an "extra". In the same way that a tv had been extra for your grandparents. How about our generation. We were born in the time cellphones came out, which means we always had cell phones since a child, hence it has become a part of our lives, but for our adults and grandparents, it remains just an addition to their current lives. What if another technology were to come out? Would it also just be an addition to our current lives? Just as how a tv had been our parents basic, we had our phone as our way of passing time.
