Me and a friend of mine planned on doing a project on this topic, we later dropped it, but as interesting I decided I would continue this article. So it will be written as I need to preserve the idea.

We have taken the topic, the future of the Internet. Technology has played a big part in shaping the society. And here we took the internet as it is the most popular and powerful technologies that had contributed a lot to the society
It as well enough know that the Internet was revolutionary. Originally made in 1969, the internet has forever since changed a lot and has grown exponentially, with IPv4 being made in 1980. Later on many proposal have been made to extend the Ip, and as IPv4 could not hold all the current protocols, IPv6 was introduced later on in December 1995. This provided a 6 address space apart from the dominant origial Ipv4 being 128 bits compared to the original 32 bits.
Now with that out of the way, as the global population continues to grow, we would require more and more addresses which would grow exponentially. This would call for a new Internet protocol.
Those in China have taken a step towards this. It had been rumored that the Chinese have started to produce their own IPv9 protocol, but later it was said to only be a “April fools joke” but what if we do actually work towards this?
“In the early 1990s, when it became apparent that IPv4 could not sustain routing in a growing Internet, several new Internet Protocols were proposed. The Internet Protocol that finally emerged was assigned version number 6, being the lowest free number greater than 4.
The PIP protocol and TUBA protocol used versions 8 and 9, following version 7 for TP/IX.
In 2004, an IPv9 protocol was developed in China using 256-bit addresses.
“
The protocol was a research project of the Institute of Chemical Engineering (Shanghai), and there was little evidence that it gained any real-world adoption. A small number of papers and patents have been published which refer to IPv9 addressing. And apparently it will allow every living cell to be assigned its own IPv9 address.
Now lets talk about networking.
It is well known that we have LAN ( local area network ) and WAN (wide area network) at present, where WAN being the internet we currently use today. But in the future we would require something much larger. Let alone space tourism, which seems to be in good demand for the future with people like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk already starting to plan commercial space flight. As we humans tend to expand our territories, we too soon would be conquering and living in space one day. This brings us to space settlements, which is again completely another topic. Many proposals go to say a settlement may go as far as to the asteroid belt or more. So it is important that we create a much stronger internet connection with those beyond just Earth. We currently have satellites which send image data. They use another type of network called the DSN or deep space network. This is an international network used to communicate with spacecrafts and satellites in space. But as time goes, a new networking system would still be required.
Internet Protocols
Beyond LANs and WANs
IOT
According to Forbes, IoT technology will be in 95% of electronics for new product designs and its expected to have everything connected to the cloud and to the internet by 2050.
No doubt, IOT is the future.
